In a tournament where the toss played an important role, Sri Lanka won their sixth Asia Cup title by defeating Pakistan in the Asia Cup finalThe chasing team had won eight of the 11 matches in this tournament so far and two of them came in India and Pakistan's victories over Hong Kong. But Sri Lanka, after losing the toss in the final, batted first and at one point scored a respectable 170 runs despite falling for only 58 for 5 and won by 23 runs. Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene heaped praise on the Sri Lankan team's effort in the final.

Jayawardene tweeted, "Boys lost a good toss & everyone is proud of the character & passion shown to play for the country. Enjoy the victory as will the whole country. Great team effort. Bhanuka Rajapaksa played a brilliant knock of 71 not out off 45 balls and took the team to a respectable score of 170 for 6, where even reaching the first 150 was difficult for him. He got good support from Wanindu Hasaranga, who scored 36 runs in 21 balls.

After this Pramod Madushan broke Pakistan's back by taking two wickets in two balls. After this Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed shared a 71-run partnership, but their scoring rate was very low, which put pressure on the team. Madushan then took his third wicket in the form of Iftikhar (32). Its Hasranga ended Pakistan's hopes by dismissing Rizwan (55), Asif Ali (00) and Khushdil Shah (02) in the same over. Pakistan were all out for 147 in the end as Sri Lanka clinched their sixth Asia Cup win by 23 runs.
