Onam: President and PM Modi congratulated the countrymen


The main festival of Kerala 'Onam' is being celebrated with great enthusiasm today. Celebrated in Kerala, Onam is one of the most popular harvest festivals in the country. PM Narendra Modi has congratulated on the main festival of Onam being celebrated with gaiety. Apart from this, many leaders including President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday extended Onam greetings to the Malayali community spread across Kerala and the world.


President Murmu said in his tweet, "Onam greetings to the countrymen, especially the Malayalee sisters and brothers. A festival marking the new harvest, Onam also celebrates the values ​​of equality, fairness and truthfulness. May the joyous spirit of this festival strengthen social harmony and bring peace and prosperity to all."


In a tweet, Vice President Dhankhar said, "My warm greetings on the auspicious occasion of Onam. Celebrated to honor the memory of King Mahabali, Onam symbolizes the high values ​​of honesty, compassion and sacrifice. May the spirit of Onam bring peace, prosperity and happiness in everyone's life."



Prime Minister Modi said in a tweet message, "Onam greetings to all, especially to the people of Kerala and the Malayalee community spread across the world. This festival reaffirms the vital role of Mother Nature and the importance of our hardworking farmers. It is wished that Onam also takes forward the spirit of harmony in our society.


Onam is one of the most popular harvest festivals

Let us tell you that Onam celebrated in Kerala is one of the most popular harvest festivals in the country. According to the Malayalam solar calendar, the festival of Onam is celebrated in the month of Chingam. Chingam is considered by Malayalam as the first month of the year. On the other hand, according to the Hindu calendar, Chingam month is of August or September. Therefore, every year this festival is celebrated between August and September. This time this festival is being celebrated on 8th September (Thursday).

By the way, every day of Onam has a special significance. In this festival, people decorate their homes with flowers for 10 days and worship Lord Vishnu and Mahabali according to the law. This festival of Onam is also celebrated in the joy of the arrival of a new crop. However, the festivities began on 12 August and will go on till 23 September.
