Earth trembled by earthquake in southeast Taiwan, now tsunami alert

 


A tsunami warning has been issued after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck southeast of Taiwan on Sunday. The Meteorological Bureau said that after the earthquake, information about the derailment and damage of the train is coming to the fore. According to the Meteorological Bureau, the epicenter of the quake was in Taitung County and a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck the same area on Saturday evening, causing no casualties.

The US Geological Survey gave the earthquake a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale, with an epicenter at a depth of 10 km (6.2 mi). According to media reports, a low-rise building of a store collapsed and rescue operations have started to save the people inside.

The Taiwan Railway Administration said three trains derailed after a portion of the platform collapsed at Dongli Station in eastern Taiwan and about 20 passengers on board have been evacuated. The US Tsunami Warning Center issued a warning in Taiwan after the earthquake. The warning said dangerous tsunami waves are likely to occur in the earthquake-affected area along the coast of Taiwan.
