Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Asia cup 2022 Final

Sri Lanka and Pakistan had opened their account with defeat in the Asia Cup 2022, but today the legendary teams have reached the final of the tournament. Both the teams are ready to compete against each other. However, Sri Lanka thrashed Pakistan by five wickets in the warm-up match played on Friday. On Sunday, it is now to be seen which team will take the Asia Cup 2022 cup to their country.

Sri Lanka, who entered the tournament after socio-economic crisis and turmoil, suffered an eight-wicket defeat against Afghanistan in their opening match. However, since then the Dasun Shanaka-led side has not lost a single match and maintained a four-match winning streak. On the other hand, Pakistan lost to the Indian team in the first match of their campaign. However, now the team also won important matches and managed to reach the finals. Sri Lanka are aiming to take their Asia Cup title tally to 6 in the tournament, while Pakistan are looking to add their third spot in the trophy cabinet.

Strength of both teams

Ahead of the final, both the teams faced each other in a Super Four game on Friday where Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by five wickets. In the final, Pakistan would like to improve their batting effort against the spin ability of Sri Lanka. The Babar Azam-led side has a lead of less than 120 against spinners in T20Is since 2021 in the top six, so the Wanindu Hasaranga-led spin department could define Sri Lanka's fate in this fixture.

Pakistan's batsmen struggled against Sri Lanka's spinners on Friday. Pakistan have also lost momentum in the 7 to 10 overs phase after the powerplay, having tried various combinations of batting during the middle overs, with none of the batsmen able to last long. 5 in the thriller against Afghanistan, Shadab Khan could once again counter Sri Lanka's spin menace. The bowling line-up has been Pakistan's strength in the current tournament despite the absence of some prominent fast bowlers. Naseem Shah and Shadab Khan, who were rested on Friday, should return to Pakistan's playing XI for the final.

Toss will be important

On the other hand, the toss can be an important factor for Sri Lanka. They have had the advantage of bowling first in each of their four wins, so a turn of luck at the toss could come as a tough test. Apart from their spin bowling, Sri Lanka's top five batsmen have also had solid contributions. Openers Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nisanka have started well at the top, while Danushka, Bhanuka Rajapakse, Shanaka and Chamikatne Karunaratne have all scored when they mattered the most. Sri Lanka and Pakistan have played three Asia Cup finals, winning in 1986, 2000 and 2014. This will be Sri Lanka's 11th Asia Cup final. Overall, a spicy and exciting tournament awaits the fans on Sunday.

Both the teams (probable) are as follows-

Pakistan squad: Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Babar Azam (c), Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Asif Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Usman Qadir, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain and Hasan Ali.

Sri Lanka squad: Pathum Nisanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Dhananjaya de Silva, Danushka Gunathilaka, Bhanuka Rajapakse, Dasun Shanaka (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Pramod Madushan, Mahesh Thikshana and Dilshan Madushanka.
