FIFA: FIFA suspends the Indian Football Federation
World Football Governing Body (FIFA) on Monday suspended the All India Football Federation of India with immediate effect. FIFA took this decision due to undue interference from third parties and violation of rules. Now India will not be able to host the Under-17 Women's World Cup to be held in the country from October 11-30. On the other hand, the Durand Cup will start in Kolkata on Tuesday, 16 August. Bangalore FC will take on Jamshedpur FC on the second day. 11 Indian Super League (ISL) clubs will participate in the tournament.
FIFA has suspended the Indian Football Federation, saying the suspension has been taken for a "serious violation of FIFA rules". The Under-17 Women's World Cup cannot be held as planned in India at present. Earlier this month, the World Football Governing Body (FIFA) threatened the suspension of the All India Football Federation. This warning was given after the Supreme Court's direction to hold federation elections.
However, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators has started the election process. Elections are to be held on August 28. FIFA says that it is against any third-party interference in the operation of its member units. Here, Indian football captain and veteran striker Sunil Chhetri had told his fellow players only on Sunday that FIFA's Indian football should be suspended or Threats to ban do not need to be heeded. He told the players that you should focus on performing at their best on the field.
