CWG 2022: It rained medals on India on the 8th day, and won 6 medals including three gold



Indian wrestlers dominated the eighth day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 (CWG 2022). Three wrestlers including star wrestler Bajrang Punia won gold for the country. India won a total of six medals, including three gold, one silver, and two bronze, in wrestling on Friday. Indian athletes have so far won 26 medals – nine gold, eight silver, and nine bronze – in the Commonwealth Games 2022 (CWG 2022). While Kidambi Srikanth and PV Sindhu entered the quarterfinals, Bhavana Patel secured a medal for India by entering the finals of Women's Singles Para Table Tennis. However, the Indian hockey women's team had to face defeat. At the same time, table tennis player Manika Batra also lost in the quarterfinals of women's singles.

Indian wrestlers shine

Indian wrestlers Bajrang Punia (men's 65kg), Deepak Punia (men's 86kg), and Sakshi Malik (women's 62kg) won the gold, while Anshu Malik (women's 57kg) won the silver and Divya Kakran (68kg) and Mohit Grewal (Freestyle 125kg category) won the bronze medal. Bajrang won the gold in the freestyle 65kg category by defeating Lachlan McNeill of Canada 9-2. Sakshi scored four points in the freestyle 62kg category by beating Canada's Anna Godinez Gonzalez first. He then won the gold by defeating it with pinball.


Deepak Poonia won the gold medal in the freestyle 86kg category by defeating Mohammad Inam of Pakistan 3-0. Anshu Malik had to be content with a silver medal in the freestyle 57kg category. She was defeated 7-3 by Odanayo Folasado of Nigeria in the final.

Divya Kakran defeated Lily Cocker of Tonga 2-0 in the bronze medal match in the freestyle 68kg category. Indian wrestler Mohit Grewal won the bronze medal in the freestyle 125kg category. He defeated Aaron Johnson of Jamaica 6-0.

Sindhu-Srikanth in quarterfinals

Star Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth entered the quarter-finals of the women's and men's singles respectively with easy wins. In the 2018 edition, silver medalist Sindhu registered a 21-10, 21-9 win over Uganda's Husina Kobugabe, while Gold Coast's second-best Srikanth also beat Sri Lanka's Dumindu Abewikrama 21-9, in the men's singles. Won easy 21-12. Tokyo Paralympic silver medalist Bhavana Patel entered the final of the Commonwealth Games 2022 by defeating Sue Bailey of England 3-0 in the semi-finals of the Para Women's Table Tennis Singles category 3-5. With this, Bhavana has ensured at least a silver medal for India. However, India's Raj Aravindan Alagar crashed out of the men's singles section 3-5 in the semi-finals after losing 1-3 (7-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-7) to Nigeria's Nasiru Sule.

Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran have reached the quarterfinals of the table tennis mixed doubles event. The Indian pair defeated the Nigerian pair of Ojomu Ajok and Omotoyo Olajide in straight games. Another star TT player Achanta Sharath Kamal has entered the men's singles round of 16.

Indian team reached the finals of the men's 4 x 400 relay event

The Indian quartet of Muhammad Anas, Noah Nirmal Tom, Mohammad Ajmal, and Amol Jacob on Friday qualified for the finals of the men's 4x400 relay event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. The Indian team finished second in Heat 2 with a timing of 3:06.97 seconds.

Indian men's lawn balls team in final

After the women's gold medal in lawn balls, men also have a chance to win gold. On Friday, the Indian team defeated England 13-12 in the semi-finals. The wrestling competition in the Commonwealth Games 2022 has been temporarily suspended due to security reasons.
